My name is Laura. I am seven years old and I have a brother, Tommy. My family has just moved out to another city and I am sad. I lost all my friends, I don’t know anyone here and I feel so alone because I don’t have a friend to play with. And then, there is Max, my neighbour, an annoying boy who’s spending all his day on the roof, trying to build a racket. Sometimes, I like to listen my mom playing the cello. She has concerts from time to time at the opera house, the only building I know in this new sad and boring town.
One night, I couldn’t fall asleep, so I was staring at the stars. Suddenly, I saw something bright and shiny felling right in the park in front of our house. I ran over there and I found a star. It was so beautiful! And shiny! And it was alive! I took it in my arms and carried it home. Then, I realized that one of its legs was broken and I fixed it with a plaster.
I was playing with it all the time. The star was wonderful! It knew how to fly and it showed me the whole city from the sky. It could give life to all my toys and the planets on my wall.
One day, I went to the opera house to see my mom rehearsing. And on the stage, there was a big golden sun and a big silver moon, and the star came out of my bag and rose the sun and the moon to the roof. Maybe the star thought it was home…
The next day, it was my mom’s concert. Oh, no! She forgot her fiddlestick! I have to give it to her before the concert starts! I have to! So, I asked the star to make me fly to the opera house. I gave my mom her fiddlestick. She didn’t see me…Phew…And my dad thinks I’m sleeping. Then, something happened. It started to rain and the star was not so shiny anymore… What’s happening?! We’re falling down!…
I woke up near the river. There was no sign of the star. Where is it? I looked for it and I looked for it and I finally found it in the water… Its leg was lost again…It died…
After a while, Max found me crying. I told him the whole story and that it was my fault…It was my fault…The star is dead because of me… I should have let it go home…But I didn’t. I was selfish…
Max gave me the leg. He had found it somewhere near the river. He told me he knew the story. He followed me the whole time. But the star is still dead… Max had an idea.
We went to the opera house and put the star near her mom and her dad. Nothing happened. No!!! I have to believe! Star, you have to go home! You can go home now! It’s time for you to go home!
After a few minutes, something started to change. The star is shiny again! It’s alive!…
The star went home, on the sky, right where it belonged.
Max is my friend now. He’s not so bad after all. And I started to get used to this city. You just have to have a little faith…
